You’ve likely heard of Air B&B, but for the smaller critters there’s Air Nest and Nibble. Maisie and I decided to go on holiday for the weekend and try our paws at cabin living. Interestingly, Montana is the Treasure State so we planned to hunt for some in the mountains while we were there.
All the pigeons were partying so we couldn’t hire them to take us. Apparently there is a national French Fry Day where they all get fries and then fly around declaring to their fellow birds that they found more fries than the other bird. It sounds like an interesting holiday… but we mice had places to go! I borrowed a truck from a neighbor mouse and we packed for our trip.
Beep Beep!
We drove through the woods and arrived at our cabin in good time.
Happy squeak!
Time to unload-we have treasure to discover!
Trout creek runs right by our cabin. We assume it was intelligently named so we decided to be on the lookout for fishies as well as treasure.
Maisie was especially determined, she scouted the creek from a boulder but sadly reported no fish sightings.
She scurried up a flower stalk but still saw no trout. Perhaps there was a fish holiday that we were unaware of going on…
No treasure yet-but look at this great view!
We thought perhaps we just needed to be farther from the trail so we decided to do a little rock-scrabbling to see.
Then we found a cave! I lowered Maisie down into it. “Can you see any treasure?” I called down.
“No sparkles!” She squeaked back.
We rock scrabbled up another cliff.
We were getting tired so we called it a day and went back to the cabin for a frosty bubble drink.
The creek burbled along as we savored our fizzies. Our eyes were treated to so many grand sights while our whiskers enjoyed forest scents and our ears were soothed with birdsong. So many beautiful things, just none that were hard and sparkly. Our hunt will continue on another trip, but for now we’re satisfied with all the treasures that God let us see, smell and hear. They will get put in a place of honor in our memories.
