Teatime
And rhubarb fizz.
Happy Spring!
My friends and I have all been hired to create a spring tea. Well, except for Lumi, who is currently at a meeting in the North Pole with Santa…
It’s all paws on deck as there was lots to do. First thing was to chop some stalks of rhubarb to simmer and strain. Meggie jumped up on the front to tell us where to go…
“Left! No, right! Which paw is my right paw?” Meggie squeaked.
“The one you reach for cheese with,” Karamel answered.
“Oh…um…right!”
The rhubarb was heavy, but no match for determined mice.
Then it was time to harvest some dandelion greens for the salad.
“I brought a basket,” Maisie squeaked
“Me too!” Karamel was right behind her.
“Okay everymouse, we want greens that aren’t tiny, but also aren’t huge, or there’ll be extra chopping to do.”
“What about the flowers?” Maisie asked
“Nope, those are great for wine and jelly, but we’re after salad greens today,” I answered.
Meggie started singing, “I’s got a lov-i-ly bunch of dand-lions do de do…theres they are a stand’n n the grass…”
“Meggie, must you sing your dandelion song?” Maisie asked
“Yes’m I must. Songs are comforting, so If I don’t sing, they might get scared and run away.”
“What makes you think that?”
“I heard tell of some plants getting runners, and I don’t wanna spook ‘em. Miss Brambleberry wants this tea to be perfect, so I’s gonna sing to the plants!”
Meggie continued to sing and in short order our baskets were filled.
We scampered into the house to set the table.
“I’ve got the linens out, next we need the three tier tray for the sweets in the center.”
The three tier tray required a lot of mouse muscle.
Then some flowers around the base.
Then time to set the table. Water glass first, fun drink goblet, and lastly, teacup with handle to the right.
“There’s dusts in here.” Meggie proclaimed, sticking her head in the tallest glass.
“That’s why we wipe them with a damp cloth Meggie,” Maisie squeaked helpfully.
We put out the chocolates and started on the sweets, but then turned around to find Meggie stuck in one of the chocolates bowls.
“Karamel, which one should I nibble?”
“That’s bigger than your head! We have mouse chocolates at home.”
“Poo berries!” Meggie indignantly squeaked.
“Language!” Karamel admonished.
“Ze sweets are finie Brambleberry,” Madi squeaked gently.
“Excellent! Now Meggie, I could use some help with the teapot.” I decided to distract Meggie from the huge chocolates. I was seeing to the sugar container as she scrambled up to me.
“Meggie, we need to put milk in the creamer.”
“Meggie!”
“Yes’m, it’s cool in here!'“
“Ahem!” My tail was beginning to twitch. That mouse was spending more time suspended on her head than on her feet!
Meggie dutifully got the creamer filled.
“Can I taste test the milk?”
“Sorry Meggie, we get our mouse feast when we’re done.” I squeaked.
“Awww, mouse fluff!”
“It won’t be long, I promise.”
I scurried back to the table to see how things were going.
“Tea sandwiches?”
“Check!”
“Salads?”
“Check!”
“Rhubarb reduction fizz drink?”
“Check!”
“Things are looking great,” I squeaked happily.
“It looks tasty from up here,” Karamel squeaked from the chandelier.
“Voila!"
Tea is served, and now, the mice will feast!
As always, mouse posts are made possible by many talented crafters.
